AAHGS Hampton Roads Chapter Meeting (hybrid)

About this event

The Hampton Roads Afro-American Genealogical and Historical Society (AAHGS-HR) will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, January 11th, 2025.

This meeting will feature Mary Crosby, the newsletter editor for the award winning AAHGS News, and a local researcher for the PBS documentary "Gospel" hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr.  Mary’s expertise in using Airtable, a free cloud-based relational database app for genealogy research, will be presented in "How to Use Airtable For Cluster Research: A Case Study."

Airtable which is often described as a spreadsheet on steroids that makes data actionable, combined with the “cluster” research technique wherein indirect evidence from a “cluster” of people connected to an ancestor can reveal information about the ancestor that may not otherwise be found directly. In this case study, presenter Mary Crosby will demonstrate how Airtable was used to help identify the enslaver and migration path of Emily Jackson, her 2nd-great-grandmother.

Get ready to be inspired and informed by Mary’s research journey and insightful observations.

The meeting will be held at the Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center located at 30 Ingalls Rd on the Fort Monroe campus in Hampton, Virginia.  The meeting room opens at 9:45 AM ET, and the meeting will begin at 10 AM. There is parking in front and behind the building. Handicap access is through the rear entrance. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and proceed to the Theater Room.

Please feel free to bring your laptops or tablets as we will work together after the presentation to familiarize you with Airtable. For those wishing to attend via zoom, please utilize the following link.
