Black Diversities Seminar (virtual)

About this event

Join Dr. Shelene Gomes, professor of sociology (UWI, St. Augustine) and Alison Mc Letchie, assistant professor of social sciences (South Carolina State University), for their third virtual seminar, Black Diversities.

The theme for this seminar is racial and ethnic mixing and in-betweenness. Within the English-speaking Caribbean specific terms used “Dougla” for African-South Asians and “Hak Gwai” for African-Chinese. This seminar will consider how these and other concepts of mixing and in-betweenness complicate notions of rigid racial, linguistic, religious, and ethnic classifications.

The virtual event will begin at 9:00 am (EST) on January 31, 2025.
